When thinking about the notion of “personal power,” have you considered that you contain all the power in the Universe? Think about all the processes going on in your body: blood going through the veins, air in and out of your lungs, heart beating, organs processing, cut healing … And atop this, the power of your conscious mind, moving limbs, scratching your head, driving a car … All of this speaks to an amazing power you already possess.
Some people don’t like to think they have any power or are afraid to engage it. But the truth is, everyone is a whirlpool of this universal energy. Part and parcel of it is its thrust, aggressiveness, yet also its compassion. In our society, we often equate “power” with “control” and sometimes “abuse” of that power; we place a negative connotation around the concept of “power.” When we do that, what we don’t realize is that we begin to shut down our own usage of it. As we start to look at power as “aggression” or “force” with a negative implication, we work on denying ourselves the benefit of such power, otherwise we risk becoming the negative ideas we place upon it.
The universal force of life requires aggression. However, this is a “creative aggression.” Without such force and impetus, life would never have emerged. Without this aggression, the body would never heal from illnesses or a simple scratch. This aggression is not ego-based, but life-centric. The abuses of power we witness in the behavior of others is not in recognition of the universal power within, but rather the limiting belief that the individual’s own power is in peril of being taken away from them. The struggles of power point to the limiting beliefs of the person who has to define the ownership of power within the framework of conflict. The Universe is One; yet the person whose ego compels him to flaunt or otherwise abuse power is really not coming from a place of such strength but is overcompensating for his inner belief in the very lack of it.
Now, since you are the living embodiment of the Universe’s power, to accept ideas of powerlessness is to dishonor that life force and its abilities working through you. You are truly a representative of that power, and upon recognizing that the power of the universe is within you and you are a reflection of it, it behooves you to be more compassionate and careful with your self-image. If you can stand in awe of a sunset and the beautiful kaleidoscope of the stars and sky, and the vastness of creation in all of its varied forms of life, then you must also stand in awe of your own self. Your life, intelligence, moving parts of your system (going all the way down to the atomic level), stems from the power of the Universe – you are its child and therefore carry all of its “chromosomes” within you. All the magnificence that you assign to the greater Universe around you must, by the very definition of you being birthed by it and within it, is also YOU.
Stop and contemplate this for a moment. You come from, represent, and carry the power from an entire Universe. When you look at all that goes on within you, from thought processes to biological functioning, then also look at all the life around you and how it behaves with intelligence – whether conscious or instinctive – and add all of it together … What does that tell you about the nature of the Universe? Then by extension, You?
You must admit, considering yourself “powerless” is a notion of ridiculous proportion. You are a Universal Powerhouse because you literally are the Universe’s power … You just may not have channeled it properly. You may have choked it off due to ideas of being limited (the source of these ideas doesn’t matter). You may have channeled it not to your benefit because you harbored negative connotations around the ideas of “power” “force” and/or “aggression.” Whatever the case, you do have power, you do have force, and the usage of force requires a thrust of aggression. This aggression does not have to be negative, hurtful, angry, or anything connected to something adverse. The aggression could instead be linked to the forceful issuance of love, creativity, or healing. The creation of stars, galaxies, planets, the growth of your body in the womb from a mere cell to an entire organism is creative aggression in action, which is life-affirming. Make this type of aggression the association with your own power, instead of hiding from it.
When you consciously deny your own Universal power, you will try to give yourself indications of it through subconscious means. In other words, your power, if repressed, will find other ways of manifesting, which may give you an undesirable experience such as cancer or an event-based phenomena requiring the need for accessing your power in order to overcome it. When we hold energy in and don’t express it, it creates “stagnant pools” within us, affecting everything down to the tissues, crying out for release. The power of Life must live out its energies, and therefore will always find some type of expression. How we acknowledge it and work with it is all-important.
We may not have all the answers, but when we start to consider our energy and life as the power of the Universe, it opens us up to discovering portions of ourselves we have left hidden or dormant. These sides have been silent because up until now, we were taught to view ourselves in a certain way which typically closed off or stunted our forces of energy in some way – so that we could better “fit in” with our “authority figures” and peers. And by the way, that’s really all “power” is – a “force of energy.” How you perceive it, channel it and use it is what is significant. The force of energy itself is really quite neutral. How we use it in conjunction with our own value system determines its validity in terms of positive or negative. Regardless of the value system (which we set up, by the way), the forces of energy are existent within you, as it is the Universal power animated as You.
Looking at yourself, you are looking at the Universe. Yet we so often negate this. We tell ourselves a narrative of how weak we are, unhealthy we are, how we lack the ability to create the reality we desire … In other words, ideas and expressions that say, “I am powerless.” We are kicking ourselves down before we even give ourselves permission to stand up. In doing that, we are denying the very origins of our identity, as well as keeping ourselves locked out from experiencing the natural heritage that comes with it. In saying or intimating “I am powerless” you are denying the “pools of energy” that keep your blood flowing, digesting your food, sparking the neurons that even give you the ability to think such a limiting idea in the first place! In this sense, you are your own paradox 😊. Indeed, you have set yourself to be powerless, so deny it within yourself and hold back from using it – though it is definitely there within you.
Question: Would you limit the Universe? Do you perceive the Universe as being limited? If not, then why apply this to your own sense of self? The only reasonable answer is because you were taught to inhibit yourself in certain areas in order to – according to your own beliefs – be acceptable and lovable. However, from a Universal standpoint, if you weren’t already acceptable and lovable, you would not have the power of life within you that you do.
It is worthwhile to sit for a few moments and feel that power; sense and notice the life force energy within. Note that this comes from and is of the power of the Universe. It is all creative – as it has created the tissue, bone, and cooperative organs engaged in endless activity within this very second. That is awesome power! Acknowledge the vitality of such energy, that it is yours. Then notice, too, the abundance of it. Again, too often we inhibit our sense of abundance – spiritually and physically. We often think we are doomed to lack or are not worthy of more. Coming into direct contact with the Universal energy shows that such poverty is not within the makeup of the Universe; therefore, it is also not within the design of You. Again, you are dealing with limited beliefs that – once confronted with the truth of your Universal origins – cannot remain standing. Now, beliefs are a habit of thought, so you will need to re-confront these ideas until the habit of thinking (and thus believing them) is obliterated. You will replace them with not only new thoughts of abundance, but will have the internal feeling-sense of that truth to back it up.
